Hikane Primary School was established in the early 2000s to address the growing educational needs of the Morokwaneng Village community in the Morokweng area of South Africa's North West Province. Born from the collective aspiration of local families who believed that quality education should be within every child's reach, the school began with a handful of classrooms and a small but determined group of educators.
Over the years, Hikane Primary has grown into a thriving institution with modern facilities, a complete primary school curriculum, and a culture of academic excellence. Today, the school serves 380 learners from Grade R through Grade 7, supported by 11 dedicated educators who bring passion, expertise, and genuine care to the classroom every day.
The name "Hikane" carries deep cultural significance in the local Setswana-speaking community, reflecting the values of perseverance, unity, and progress that guide our educational philosophy. As a Quintile 1, No-Fee school, we ensure that quality education remains accessible to all children, regardless of their family's financial circumstances.
To provide quality, inclusive, and holistic education that empowers every learner in Morokwaneng to realise their full potential — academically, socially, and emotionally — while instilling values of respect, responsibility, and resilience that will carry them through life.
To be the leading primary school in the Dr Ruth S Mompati District, recognised for producing confident, compassionate, and capable young citizens who are prepared for secondary education and beyond, while remaining deeply connected to our cultural heritage and community.
"Excellence Through Dedication"
This motto guides everything we do — from the rigour of our academic programmes to the warmth of our pastoral care. We believe that dedication from educators, families, and learners alike creates the foundation for true excellence.
We embrace the African philosophy of Ubuntu — "I am because we are." Our school is a community where every person's dignity is respected, and mutual support is the foundation of all we do.
We hold ourselves and our learners to high academic standards, ensuring that every child receives a rigorous, engaging, and relevant education aligned with the national CAPS curriculum.
Mutual respect between learners, educators, and parents creates a positive learning environment. We teach self-discipline as a life skill that enables learners to make responsible choices.
We celebrate our rich Setswana heritage through language, traditional arts, and cultural events, ensuring learners are rooted in their identity while preparing for a globalised world.
Despite resource challenges, we continuously seek creative solutions to improve teaching and learning. We embrace new methods, technologies, and partnerships to stay relevant and effective.
Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed. We create an inclusive environment that accommodates diverse learning needs and backgrounds without discrimination.
Hikane Primary School opened its doors in Morokwaneng Village with 3 classrooms, 2 educators, and 85 learners. The school was established to serve the rapidly growing community of Morokweng.
The school achieved Section 21 status, gaining financial autonomy to manage its own budget, procure learning materials, and maintain school infrastructure more effectively.
Hikane Primary was included in the National School Nutrition Programme, ensuring all learners receive a nutritious meal daily — significantly improving attendance and concentration levels.
The school was officially declared a No-Fee institution under Quintile 1, removing all financial barriers to education for families in the Morokwaneng community.
Major infrastructure improvements were completed, including new classrooms, renovated administration block, improved sanitation facilities, and a perimeter fence for enhanced learner safety.
Hikane Primary continues to grow, now serving 380 learners across all primary grades with a team of 11 educators. The school remains a pillar of educational excellence in the Dr Ruth S Mompati District.
"At Hikane Primary School, we believe that every child carries within them the seeds of greatness. It is our sacred responsibility to nurture those seeds with care, patience, and dedication."
As principal, I am honoured to lead a school that stands as a beacon of hope and opportunity for the children of Morokwaneng. Our journey has not always been easy — we face the challenges common to rural schools in South Africa — but our determination to provide quality education has never wavered.
I invite parents, community members, and well-wishers to partner with us in this noble endeavour. Together, we can ensure that the children of Morokweng have every opportunity to succeed and make their mark in the world.
